A lily bouquet changes as it opens

The narrow outline of closed lily buds can become a much wider display. When choosing a bouquet, allow space for the open flowers rather than judging its final size from tightly closed buds. A vase that supports the stems without trapping the flowers will make that change easier to enjoy.

For a celebration in Bali, tell the florist when the bouquet needs to look its fullest. Flowers for an evening presentation and flowers to enjoy gradually over a stay may need a different balance of open blooms and buds. Opening times vary, so a photograph is useful for discussing their present stage, not predicting an exact hour.

Check fragrance before choosing a bedroom bouquet

Do not send true lilies to a home with cats

True lilies from the genus Lilium are highly toxic to cats. Petals, leaves, pollen and even vase water can cause serious poisoning. Removing pollen or putting the vase on a high shelf does not make the bouquet suitable for a household with cats.

Tell the florist about pets before any mixed arrangement is made. Request a composition without lilies and have the full list of flowers and foliage checked; choosing a different category name alone is not enough.

If a cat may have eaten lily material, licked pollen or drunk water from the vase, contact a veterinarian immediately. Do not wait for symptoms.

Give the flowers a practical place to land

A recipient arriving back at a Bali hotel will need more than a wrapped bouquet waiting at reception. Arrange who can accept it and whether a suitable vase is available. The delivery address should include the property name and a reachable contact for handover.

At home, use clean water and remove any leaves that would sit below its surface. Leave room around opening petals and keep the vase away from fabrics that pollen could stain. Follow the supplied flower food instructions rather than adding household mixtures.
